Do you still remember
the 2011 Tohoku earthquake? Which media do you suppose is the first one to report this disaster? It
is not the Reuters, not the BBC and the AP, however the first
message to report the earthquake came from Twitter-the burgeoning social media.
The 2012 London
Olympic Games is coming in less than 12 hours, there’s no doubt that Twitter
will be the most active social media which won’t miss any memorable moment on
the Olympic Stadium. Analysts
tell the Daily Mail that they expect the 100-meter
men's final -- the most popular of the track events in Olympic Games -- to set
a record in terms of number of tweets per second. (The current record of 15,358
tweets per second was achieved in Euro 2012 as Spain scored its fourth goal.) How ever let's hope the Twitter data center can hold on to this. Twitter experiences
twin data center failures that left millions of users tweetless for about two
hours. What
will people lost if Twitter outage again? Maybe a new comments from their followers, but
they still can find other ways to fill time. But for those who tout on Twitter,
is will be a big loss. The Olympic Games will be a test for twitter and the
world is watching.
