What do you know about AVCHD?

AVCHD(Advanced Video Coding High Definition) is a file-based format developed by Sony and Panasonic in 2006. It is a format mainly used for the digital recording and playing High-definition video. Its predecessor is HDV. However, AVCHD obviously has its advantages.

The development history of AVCHD:

In 2006, primarily for use in high definition consumer camcorders.

In 2008, Panasonic released the first professional AVCHD camcorder in autumn

In 2011, include 1080-line 50-frame/s and 60-frame/s modes (AVCHD Progressive),and stereoscopic video (AVCHD 3D)

Media

1 Memory stick and SD secure

Solid-state memory cards have a faster transfer speed ranging from 10 MByte/s to 25 Mbyte/s for most brands, it takes about 1 minute to transfer 1 GB of video from a card to a computer for viewing and/or editing. However this media player also has its cons and pros. Panasonic and Sony at first choose the removable flash as their unique media, where as in 2010, Sony insist in using their own product of memory card-memory stick. Until 2010, Sony can support the both memory stick and SD card. If you use a memory stick or secure card to record, it is rather lightweight, free of the damage of magnetic fields, have a stronger compatibility of adapting the humidity environment and the air pressure than HDD, can store different media content and can new computers, many TV set and Blu-ray discs have the card reader.

2 Hard Disk Drive

The hard disk drive added into the camcorder can range from 30GB to 240GB.

Its advantage is obvious: it has a bigger storage capacity than any other media, but the disadvantages are also appeas: sensitive to atmospheric pressure, it will fail to work 3000 meters or above

It employs non-removable disks so when you want to watch the videos in a computer, you have to connect the camcorder with a USB cable. The most trouble thing, you maybe come across is that if the hard disc is damaged, the camcorder should be dissembling which a consumer cannot do.

3 DVD

It is the most traditional way. Although DVD is going to step down from the history stage, it still had its advantages. The first that occur to our mind is that if you record your videos to a DVD, it is easy for storage. For years past, you still can see the pictures. There is no doubt that if you use a DVD as a record media, you can save a lot of money. It is cheaper than other media. Meanwhile most the consumers like to choose the one that we get familiar with. For media choose, there is no exception. As for DVD, it is a relative more mature technology and closer to the consumer. Most Blu-ray Disk players can also support DVDs.

As for the home use camcorders, we record the precious moments for recalling. That is the reason why most consumers like to choose DVDs as record their videos. If you use DVD as your AVCHD media, you should install a proper DVD player software as well.   

For now, the powerful DVD player software is window media player which can support video formats of AVI, MPEG-1Real player and so on. Test if they can playback your record video before using the software.
