Apple’s sales grew or fell ?- Different datas appear in the reports of Gartner and IDC
Tuesday, July 17, 2012
The two largest market researcher Gartner and IDC reported their datas about the worldwide shipment of PC. Both of them agreed that The second quarter in 2012 was a disaster for traditional PC vendors. However, they don’t reach an agreement on the shipment of Apple’s Mac.
Gartner reports that the PC shipment declined by 0.1% worldwide, on the other hand, the market share of Apple is increasing. However IDC can't be identical with Gartner in the Apple thing.
Both of them attribute this slightly decline to the “lack-confidence-of-PC market”. One of the reason is that the customers are waiting for the Windows 8 system to be released and the other reason is that the sluggish economy. Even though the Industry sources still believe that the born of Ultrabooks, this super-thin notebook still has its limitation-the high price.
The Gartner Analyst Mikako Kitagawa said that the shipments of the top5 US PC producers declined in different degrees except for Apple: The shipment of Apple in the second quarter is 190,000 increasing by 4.3% compared to the same period in2011. The shipment of HPQ is 3,976,017,declined by 12.7% compared to the same period last year. Dell declined by 9.5%.
IDC data shows that: shipment of Apple Mac was 181,000, decline by 1.1% compared to the same period last year. The shipment of HPQ is 4,125,000 declined by 12% compared to the same period last year. Dell declined by 9.2%.
The DTI data also tells that, the sales of Lenovo is 1,276,000 in the second quarter and the sales increase by 6.1%. Nevertheless the report also pointed that compared to double-digit increase in the past quarters, the increase in this quarter is definite a relative decrease.
Gartner also claimed, nevertheless, that its data include "desk-based PCs and mobile PCs, including mini-notebooks but not media tablets such as the iPad."
The two firms agree about that. In their world, netbooks and Ultrabooks are PCs, but tablets are not. If they were, Apple would be the world largest PC producer instead of HP
